The Omalos Plateau<\/a> is a mountain plateau located in the western part of the island of Crete, Greece.<\/h3>\n

It is situated at an altitude of approximately 1,050 meters above sea level and covers an area of around 7 square kilometers. The plateau is surrounded by high mountains, including the Lefka Ori range, which is the highest in Crete, with peaks reaching over 2,400 meters.<\/p>\n

The Omalos Plateau is known for its natural beauty and is a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers. The Samaria Gorge, one of the longest gorges in Europe, begins in the plateau and attracts thousands of visitors every year. Therissos<\/a> is a village located in the northern part of the island of Crete, Greece.<\/h3>\n

It is situated approximately 15 kilometers southwest of the city of Chania, at an altitude of around 580 meters above sea level. The village is surrounded by the White Mountains and is known for its natural beauty and traditional architecture.<\/p>\n

Therissos has a rich history and played an important role in the Cretan Revolution of 1866 against Ottoman rule. The village was the site of a major battle between Cretan rebels and Ottoman forces, which led to the death of many villagers and the destruction of much of the village. Today, visitors to Therissos can see the remains of the old village and the Museum of National Resistance, which commemorates the events of the revolution.<\/p>\n
