The Omalos Plateau is a mountain plateau located in the western part of the island of Crete, Greece. During World War II, the Omalos Plateau was the site of a major battle between Allied and German forces, known as the Battle of Crete. Today, the plateau serves as a peaceful and scenic location for visitors to explore and appreciate the natural beauty of Crete.
Therissos is a village located in the northern part of the island of Crete, Greece. It is situated approximately 15 kilometers southwest of the city of Chania, at an altitude of around 580 meters above sea level. The village is surrounded by the White Mountains and is known for its natural beauty and traditional architecture.
Therissos has a rich history and played an important role in the Cretan Revolution of 1866 against Ottoman rule. The village was the site of a major battle between Cretan rebels and Ottoman forces, which led to the death of many villagers and the destruction of much of the village. Today, visitors to Therissos can see the remains of the old village and the Museum of National Resistance, which commemorates the events of the revolution.
In addition to its historical significance, Therissos is also a popular destination for hiking and nature enthusiasts. The village is surrounded by stunning natural scenery and is the starting point for several hiking trails that lead into the White Mountains.
